IDS (Intrusion Detection System)
IDS comes in two forms: host based
and network based. They can be passive or active in nature. They are
designed to detect suspicious activity on a system
IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force)
An open group creating standards
to evolve the Internet
A program designed to gain unauthorized
access and control by bypassing standard authentication procedures.
NetBus is an example
(Postscript file, Section 9.1.4)
A backup of all files changed since
the last full or archival backup
IM (Instant Messaging)
A process in which people can communicate
without the delay of email. File attachments and lack of encryption
can be security issues
IRT (Incident Response Team)
A group of people who respond to
a security breech according to policy
A network connecting other networks.
An internal network that utilizes
the same protocols as the Internet
Unauthorized access to a system created
by modifying the IP information in the source portion of an IP datagram
IPSec (IP Security Protocol)
A set of standards (protocols) to
support secure communication in the IP layer (Network layer)
Issuing Authority (IA)
The part of a Certificate Authority
that issues, suspends or revokes a certificate
