5.9.7 Destruction
Destruction of obsolete information
may involve shredding of paper-based data. Higher security may require
burning. For electronic media, formatting with a secure erase (overwriting
with a random pattern of zeros and ones) may be acceptable. Other security
measures may involve using a strong electromagnet such as a bulk tape
eraser. Higher security (for example some DOD requirements) may demand
the opening of a hard drive and filing the metal on the platters.
