X Chapter 0100: Summary The general concepts of protocols have been defined. Protocols characteristics have been compared in terms of vendor-specific vs. standards-based, addressing, packet format, routing and connection-oriented vs. connectionless nature. You then learned about the specifics of many of the most common protocol suites: IPX/SPX (Novell), NetBEUI (Microsoft), AppleTalk (Apple) and TCP/IP (industry standard). Defining features of these suites were discussed, as was the potential for interoperability.
