Modem Configuration
Regardless of the desire to connect
to the Internet or to a Remote Access Server (RAS)
in your corporate office, you must have a modem that is properly
configured to accomplish the mission.
Configuration of the modem
requires that you have: an available serial port, interrupt,
and I/O address range. (The last three terms are beyond the
discussion of this course. If these are not familiar to you, see your
instructor or study up with an A+ study guide.) While it is safe to
manually setup a modem using the defaults, be aware that some plug and
play devices can select non-standard settings, which can create havoc
for some software.
Know your IRQs and I/O addresses
Understanding of serial ports, default I/O and memory addresses are valid questions in the NETWORK+ test. |
