Installation Plan
The location of all the components
is critical in design phase. Critical thinking is part of any
good network layout. Whenever possible do a physical inspection of the
network site. Floor plans may give you a general idea, and you may find
that a hidden gotcha awaits you. You see a floor plan, and see the proper
electrical wiring, and plan for that. When you go to install the server,
surprise! a large copier is taking your power.
The detail of what is acceptable
to network and computer equipment is available in the technical
specifications sheet from the vendor you are considering. While
that is good data, experience has shown a good common sense
rule.

Rule of Thumb #3: Picture yourself where you plan to put the equipment. If you would not be reasonably comfortable being there for a long time, your equipment wont be either. |
Needless heartache
Failure to follow Rule of Thumb #3 will result in intermittent equipment failures, and premature equipment failure. |
