IV Windows NT Security (Page 1 of 2) Several pieces of NT comprise the NT security model. For the NETWORK+ test, be familiar with the following. Net logon and Win logon process the user requests for access. Winlogon handles the local access, with the remote or network access is handled by the Net logon. Net logon is not a visible process, whereas the Win logon is. LSA (Local Security Authority) is responsible for checking permission to access the local (interactive) system. This program is responsible for creating access tokens for local security and interactive user authentication. Besides that it manages the audit policies and logs for security. SAM (Security Accounts Manager) maintains the user accounts database. This database holds the information for all users and group (global and local) along with the access level they have in the NOS. The LSA uses the validation service that is provided by the SAM database.
