IV Getting the gear in place (Page 1 of 3) To reduce the challenge, have your list of equipment ordered. Before it begins to arrive, make sure you have a designated area that is out of the way and that it is well marked for what project it is. Find a time when the fewest users will be impacted with network downtime. Typically, this means evenings and weekends. How much time to set aside is dependant on the size of the elephant, and if you have chosen a phased in or complete redo. This takes longer due to the fact that you are going slowly. Putting in one piece or two at a time allows for managed troubleshooting. Be sure to plan for a less than perfect rollover in the time allocation. By planning a complete rollover or new install over a weekend does give the comfort of not having the concern of the network being down, or taking a meal break. This does not mean you can forgo planning some time for things to not work 100%, for whatever reason.
