III Layer 1 – Physical Layer
Several devices are considered Layer
1 components. They handle network communications at the Physical
Layer of the network, transmitting signals at the lowest level
of the network, or converting between different types of signals
(sent over different types of cable). These include:
- NIC (Network Interface Card)
- Hub
- Repeater
- MAU (Multistation Access Unit)
- Media Filter
- Transceiver
- Wireless Access Point
 Layer 1 – Physical Layer
Remember that the NIC, Repeater, Hub, MAU, and Transceiver function on Layer 1 in the OSI model.
