E-mail/SMTP Gateway
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer
Protocol) is the method by which most email traverses
the Internet. SMTP is the protocol used to ‘send
mail’. Mail is received via POP-3
(Post Office Protocol). SMTP and other Internet communication
protocols will be discussed in more detail in the chapter on TCP/IP.
