Brouter
Now having gone the way of the dinosaur,
the brouter combined layers 2 and 3. In effect it was
a bridging router, hence its name, combining “bridge”
and “router”. Like the bridge, it operates at the physical
layer, moving traffic among devices based on their
physical MAC addresses, and like a router, it can forward
network packets, assuming the protocol is routable. The operative
word, was, is used because they are being replaced by the
switch and the router.
 Brouter
Know that the brouter is still seen in legacy networks and is a valid test question.
