802.11 Wireless Networking
This is the group that advises standards
for RF, spread spectrum RF and infrared. More
information about the 802.11x standards for wireless networking can
be found in our chapter on Layer 0.
802.11
Remember that 802.11 standards define the wireless standards. It is currently the most widely used wireless networking technology. |
Although similar to CSMA/CD, it differs
by using collision avoidance (CA) rather than collision detection
(CD) in its traffic management.
802.11b = CSMA/CA
The 802.11b standard uses CSMA/CA as its method for network traffic management.
Note that this is different from the 802.3 standard, Ethernet, which uses CSMA/CD, and Bluetooth, which uses a time slot method. |
