Troubleshooting Example: Dial-Up Adapter

Update Driver

Go back to the Driver tab and choose the Update Driver Tab, as shown in Figure 75.

A wizard or help window will tell you to click next while it searches for information. This is only one of a number of wizards in Windows, which step you through common administrative tasks.

Then choose to either have Windows search for a driver or to load a driver from a downloaded update or manufacturer’s drivers disk.

Figure 78: Choosing the Dial-Up Adapter Window

The Dial Up Adapter is listed, so select that. This is the time to use the manufacturer’s driver disk or to use a downloaded driver update, by clicking the Have Disk option.

Figure 79: Update the Driver Wizard

After installing the driver, click Finish to complete the wizard. Often you may need to reboot your computer after installing a driver. This is less true on later versions of Windows, particularly Windows 2000 and later, than on earlier versions.

The process of troubleshooting and driver updates is virtually the same for all computer devices through the System Properties, in the Control Panel.
