SETVER So far we have mentioned a number of major changes occurred with DOS 5. The changes were drastic enough that it gave digital heartburn to some programs written before DOS 5. To keep them running, the SETVER program was created. Without SETVER, many older programs instead of running, would give up with DOS declaring tersely, packed file corrupt or exe corrupt. It is the job of SETVER to fake the older program into thinking it was running on the DOS version it was intended for. To run SETVER you must load it into CONFIG.SYS or you will get the following error message: NOTE SETVER device not loaded. To activate SETVER version reporting you must load the SETVER.EXE device in your CONFIG.SYS.
