Navigating the Desktop Navigating the desktop and managing the desktop is one of the secrets to becoming a successful Operating System power user. The desktop has preset icons (graphical representations) to help you organize the content of the computers hard drive. Think of this area just as you would your desk. Your desk has areas where you store messages, file folders, tape, staples and even pictures. The computer desktop is organized for navigation ease. The desktop icons, appearance and content can be customized. We have already learned to navigate through the desktop by using the tab key. Main items on the desktop by default are: My Computer, a Network icon, Recycle Bin.
