NT File Requirements

Previously, this chapter talked about needing three boot diskettes if NT is not installed from the CD. Once NT is installed, it is still subject to failure. NT needs three files to load. They are NTLDR, NTDETECT and the boot.ini file.

NT needs three files to load. They are NTLDR, NTDETECT and the Boot.ini.


[spacer]Booting NT

Actually, IF you used the default directory, (WINNT) and the boot.ini file is missing, it will take one shot at booting by looking for the WINNT folder. IF NT is there, you will boot. Otherwise, the Boot.ini file is required. The A+ O/S test simply requires you to know that all three files are required.
