I Introduction The most basic yet very powerful Operating System known as DOS ( Disk Operating System), will be examined in this chapter. The DOS environment is still present in Windows 9x and 3.x, and the commands work in the MS-DOS window in those versions of Windows. Additionally, the commands that work in DOS also work when used at the NT Command Prompt, making DOS command line knowledge a valuable thing to have in your toolbox. The various methods of using DOS as a troubleshooting tool as well as learning what really goes on under the hood will be covered here.
