II NT Fundamentals NT and Windows 2000 are completely different Operating Systems from DOS and Windows 3.x/9.x/Me offerings. When the BIOS examines Track 0 on the hard drive and finds NT the start up process appears similar to DOS in that it is character based, however the similarity ends with appearance. Lets take a look at some of the more important fundamental characteristics of Windows NT/2000, and how they differ from earlier OS technologies.
