Dial-Up Networking When connecting to an ISP (Internet service provider), typically the Dial-Up Networking panel is used. Double-clicking My Computer directs you to the icon. Clicking on Dial-Up-Networking will take you to the Make New Connection icon. It is here where we configure the modem device or even dialing into the Office network (VPN) services. We choose a name for the connection, the device and then how the dial-up service will be configured. The purpose for all of this is to utilize RAS (Remote Access Service) or to use our ISP dial-up services from a number other than what we would typically use. For instance your authors travel a great deal and need to connect to the office network or dial in to Internet mail services when away. Commonly this is where laptop users set the configurations for communicating while on the road.
Once the configuration is set you are not limited to the one. As many connections properties as needed for each situation can be made, simply name each one differently.
