Customizing the Desktop We can change the look and feel of our desktop by going to the Control Panel. To open the Display Properties dialog box (menu) begin by clicking Start, pointing to Settings, clicking Control Panel, and then double-clicking Display. An example of what you will see is shown Figure 18.
All the adjustments that need to be made to the background and icons on your desktop can be made in the Display Properties box. Sometimes after changing the icons it might appear that icons look odd. You might notice that rebooting clears up the odd appearance. It is easier to use the Shift +F8 keys to refresh (update changes) the desktop settings and appearance.
