Control Panel
At first glance, the Control Panel
looks almost exactly like Win 9x. The operative word here
is almost. One thing that is missing in NT 4 is the Device
Manager in the Control Panel. Sorry, there is no time saving
Device Manager in NT, which was developed before Microsoft
thought to add Device Manager to Win9x. Details such as what IRQ are
in use, and memory details are quite a bit tougher to find in NT, as
they were in Windows 3.1.
In Windows 200 we can find the System
icon, which can lead us to many troubleshooting and informational
areas. These areas are: Network, Hardware, User Profiles and Advanced
properties.

![[spacer]](1p.gif) NT Stability
Many experienced geeks love NT, as it is quite a bit more stable than Windows 3.x/9.x/Me. And most of us miss the details from the Device Manager. To offset this missing helper, it is not uncommon to load Windows 9x in a small partition of a hard drive with FAT to get the Device Manager. This can be a critical time saver, even more so if non-Plug n Play (legacy) devices are installed. |
