The prompt command can be used to modify how the operator is told the pc is ready for the users bidding. by typing the command prompt with a $ sign followed by either reserved characters or a string of text, the command prompt instantly changes to that ‘ready’ set.

Two of the most commonly used prompt characters are:

• $P
  
  
• $G

The $P tells the operator what area of a hard drive they are in. This is called the sub-directory or folder. The folder or sub-directory is covered later on.

The $G creates the greater than symbol (>)
