V What is a Hard Drive? A Hard Drive is a storage device for your computer that is used to hold your Operating System, programs and data. You can think of a hard drive like a filing cabinet in an office. It is used to store all of the files that you will need to perform your job. Hard drives come in many different types and sizes, which we will discuss completely in this chapter. Hard drives use different technologies and interfaces:
We will discuss all these architectures, except SCSI, in this chapter. SCSI is somewhat unique, and has its own long history therefore it is covered in Chapter 0101 the next chapter.
