Pentium III Designed as a successor to the Pentium II, the P3 offers higher CPU speeds and an update to MMX, with 70 new micro code instructions for; speech recognition, streaming video and 3-D. Pentium IIIs were released in both SEC (Slot 2) design and PGA370 socket versions. The Pentium III offers SpeedStep technology. This allows a choice between full speed or saving battery life. New to the Pentium III was Internet Streaming Single-Instruction Multiple-Data (SIMD), featuring 70 new instructions for advanced imaging, 3D, streaming audio and video, and speech recognition for an enhanced Internet experience, quoting Intels web site.
