Yes, malfunctioning batteries have
set notebook computers into what would appear to be spontaneous combustion.

However, not any fire extinguisher
will do. Some fire extinguishers are nothing more than pressurized water
tanks. Since computer equipment has electricity, using water on a flaming
PC will only exacerbate the challenge.
 Class C
In North America, Class C fire extinguishers are required for electrical fires.
