Extended ISA (EISA) Nine third party 'heavyweight' computer manufacturers got together and created the competitive answer to MCA. That answer was Extended Industry Standard Architecture (EISA). This open alternative was backwards compatible to 8-bit ISA as well as 16-bit ISA cards. Transfer rates screamed along at 33 MB a second.
