/lib

The lib directory will hold essential shared libraries and kernel modules. Libraries typically end in .so and are conceptually similar to Windows dynamically linked libraries (dll). These libraries are essential to run the commands in the root file system and they are necessary for basic file system functionality. Kernel modules some of which may be loaded at boot time can be found in /lib/modules.
