/home This directory is intended to contain the home directories of each of the systems users. They are the owners of the content within these directories. Each user can refer to his home directory by using ~/. This is the users personal short form to address his or her own directory. Within these directories, the personal configuration files for each user is located. These configuration files are usually hidden files, (files whose names start with a .) which perform functions such as configuring aliases for the shell, setting shell variables, or configuring the window manager for the users personal tastes and preferences.
