head, tail - Output the First or Last Part of a File to the Screen head and tail are simple file viewers that output either the first 10 lines or the last 10 lines of a file to the screen. They can be used in the following manner: head [+n] file tail [+n] file Head shows the first 10 lines of the file. Alternatively, it can be offset from the beginning of the file a certain number of lines by using the offset parameter + n. Tail works in a similar manner from the end of the file.
