/bin
The bin directory contains many of
the most frequently used commands for both, the administrator and all
users of the system. This directory will contain the installed usable
shells as well as any commands that would be required if major directories
are located in different file systems (partitions) and are not mounted
(like /usr). This is potentially valuable if one would need to repair
other partitions and the system can boot only into single user mode.
In addition, the directory will contain programs that boot process
(scripts) may depend on.
