Chapter 12: Material Safety: a Personal and Technical Report on Hazardous Material Handling by Frederick Carr A while back, Tcat and I were enjoying a lunch together before I was to give him a lift to the airport. We had decided to check out a hot dog place near my home and over couple of polish sausage sandwiches, he was telling me about the progress he was making on his A+ exam prep materials. He made the mistake of mentioning that the A+ test had a question or two on MSDSs. Bad mistake Tcat, you know that HazCom is a subject that I cannot sit still about. Anyway, as I proceeded to explain to Tcat the importance of MSDSs in detail with graphic illustrations, his eyes seem to glaze over and I do believe that groan or two escaped from his lips. After listening to my sermon for what probably seem to him to be hours, he suggested that I put my words in writing and he would include it as part of his publication. In retrospect, I think he may have figured that by offering to include a section on MSDSs that I might just shut up. Well, if that was indeed the case, it did not work. Not only did I continue at the Hot Dog place, but also I bent his ear all the way to the airport. When I had finished my lecture on MSDSs, I started in on workplace environmental concerns. It probably was the only time in all of his flights, that he actually was looking forward to indignation of airport security and the couple of hours of confined a cramped seat. That is the great thing about good friends; they will put up your idiosyncrasies while plotting the revenge of sometime in the future subjecting you to one of theirs. With the explanation on the how and why a section on MSDSs came to be, let us enter the wonderful and excitingworld of the MSDS. Go ahead, groan and let your eyes graze over; Ive gotten use to it. All that you will need to know for the A+ exam is in the next paragraph. I thought about withholding this information until the end of this section. But as you are not one my normal captive audience force to be there as a condition of employment, I decided to place it up front and hope that somehow youll see your way to reading the whole thing.
