Windows Backup

The Windows Backup tool can be accessed by going to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools, and clicking the Backup item. You will see a dialog box similar to the one in Figure 166.

Three wizard options are available: Backup, Restore or Emergency Repair Disk (“ERD”). The emergency repair disk is actually almost nothing to do with backing up or restoring, and is used to save a copy of some basic system information to a floppy disk for use in emergencies16.

16. Microsoft moved the ERD creation tool to the backup utility in Windows 2000 and XP. In prior versions of Windows, the rdisk.exe tool was used instead.
