Verifying the Connection
Now that you have gone to the trouble
to connect to your intranet and the World Wide Web, it is a good idea
to check and make sure it is still there! The best way to verify your
connection is using Network Utility, which is accessible in /Applications/Utilities;
see Figure 389.

The Network Utility will
list your Interface Information, including packets sent and received,
errors, IP address, and speed. To test connectivity, it is best to
use Ping, a very handy little feature.

If you have trouble with
the first address, you try to ping, try another common one like yahoo.com
or google.com, since it may be that particular IPs server. If
you cannot even get to the IP of your own server or service provider,
you have trouble and that means its time to go check your settings.
