The Control Panel The Control Panel is the central location from which almost all configuration, troubleshooting and system management begins. It is your one stop shop to configure new hardware, remove old hardware, maintain applications and customize the core behavior of your machine. We have already used the Control Panel to configure the mouse and desktop, so we will review some of the other important applets6. The Control Panel can be accessed by either double clicking the My Computer icon on the desktop, then double clicking the Control Panel icon, or by clicking the Start button, moving the cursor over Settings and selecting Control Panel from the popup menu that appears. The Control Panel is a normal Explorer window (albeit a slightly special one), so it can be customized as required.
