System Properties (Page 9 of 10) Updating Device Drivers From here, we can view the details of the driver, which will list the files it requires, uninstall the driver or update it. Updating a driver is a relatively simple process, providing you have the correct driver for the device in question. Clicking the Update Driver button launches the Device Driver Wizard, which takes you through the process of updating a driver.
Normally you will be updating a driver from a CD or floppy disk, or from drivers downloaded from a manufacturers site. To accomplish this, select the somewhat badly named Search for a suitable driver for my device and click Next.
You are prompted to select the locations in which the wizard will look for new drivers. In most cases, you will know where the drivers are, so tick the Specify a location item only, and click Next. area prompt for the driver location appears.
Simply point the wizard at the drivers, and let it complete. Once finished, you may be prompted to restart your machine, depending on the type of device installed and the version of Windows.
