Striping Striping120 is a method in which a block of data can be segmented into smaller pieces, and each piece simultaneously written to multiple locations. Performance can be significantly improved by writing data to multiple loca-tions in smaller increments. Reading data can also see a significant performance boost, particularly in parallel disk access RAID configurations. When disks are accessed in parallel, the transfer rate is the sum transfer rate of all drives participating in the I/O request. Mirrored drives also provide improved read performance, although they are not striped, by simultane-ously reading from both disks. __________________ 120. http://www.pdl.cmu.edu/RAIDtutorial/
