NLX The NLX can be thought of as the next generation LPX. Laptops and docking stations aside, there remains a market for a smaller motherboard form factor and desktop profile. The NLX satisfies that requirement and solves many of the shortcomings of the LPX. It has the same basic size and dimensions measuring 8 to 9 inches (20,32 to 22,86 cm) wide and 10 to 13.6 inches (25,40 to 34.54 cm) deep. The NLX solves the heating issues by providing better cooling characteristics and can therefore support CPUs that are more modern. They operate safely at higher temperatures, as well as locating the processor on the board, where it can be cooled more easily. While the NLX still uses a riser card, it is constructed to allow a greater variety of configuration in terms of upgrade options. In addition, the system board is designed to slide in and out of the case for ease of installation and servicing.
