Gigabit Ethernet
Nature still hates a void. The next
round is Gigabit Ethernet (1000 Mbps). Gigabit Ethernet uses 4 pairs
of wires, not two pair as in Ethernet and Fast Ethernet. If you must
install wiring today, carefully follow all the rules for supporting,
bending and terminating the cable and install all 4 pairs. We cannot
promise your Cat 5 will work as Gigabit, and if you use good quality
components, installed very carefully, you should Gigabit out of your
Cat 5 wiring.
