Duplex Protocols of the 2nd layer pass an accepted and transmitted signal on different pairs of cable, but the NIC works in a half-duplex mode for Ethernet. That is, in a certain moment of time it can either transfer or accept the data. However, for Fast Ethernet it is possible to work in full duplex, where the NIC is in a condition to accept and transfer the data at the same time, doubling throughput of a network. In this mode, CSMA/CD183 is not used. __________________ 183. http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid7_gci213869,00.html
