Defrag The defrag47 command launches the defragmentation utility from the CLI. This is an improvement from previous Windows operating systems. Typing in defrag /? produces a print out of the parameter options for this command. As you can see, in addition to the help command, there are only three other basic switches.
Switches /a and /v can be used together. You can apply a particular command to a specific volume by the syntax: defrag volume [/switch]. One example would be defrag volume [/a]. You must include the name of the volume in the command, otherwise the only result you will get is a repeat of the output of the help command. The name of the volume will be either the drive letter or the mount point. Figure 264 shows an example of the command defrag c: /a which is the command to analyze the c drive and determine if it requires defragmentation.
