Configuring Internet Explorer Security Zones (Page 2 of 7) Security Settings The first visible options are self-explanatory, and are concerned with how much data to cache locally. The first task is to click on the Security tab to configure our trust zones.
The panel at the top of the dialog provides four zones to use for categorizing websites. Why should we configure these categories and options? The simple answer is security. It is an unfortunate fact that almost all web browsers (and especially Internet Explorer) have security flaws in them. Some of these flaws are serious enough to allow a malicious website to gain access to your local machine, steal personal data and force your machine to perform other malicious tasks. By categorizing websites in Internet Zones and assigning permissions to these zones, you can improve the safety of your web browsing.
