Configuring Internet Explorer Proxy and Connections (Page 3 of 3) Bypassing the Proxy Server for Local Addresses It may be necessary to tick the Bypass proxy server for local addresses checkbox. This option is used when you have web servers on the internal network that you may need to access. Because Internet Explorer sends all requests to a proxy server if one is configured, it needs to be told explicitly which requests should not be sent to the proxy server but directly to the target web server. To configure which sites should be treated in this way, click the Advanced button. You are presented with the dialog in Figure 474.
To exclude web sites from being sent to the proxy server, simply enter their details into the exceptions dialog. The above screenshot shows some examples. Before dismissing this dialog, look at its top section. As you can see, Internet Explorer is able to use different proxy servers depending on the protocol used. A handy feature!
