Category View - Summary As you can see, the Control Panel Category View allows the user to access configuration features by more intuitive titles making it easier to adjust system settings without having to know how to access them under the classic Control Panel format. Category view also gives a user the option to click on Control Panel icons if they are more familiar with those. In the upper left hand area of the main Category view under Control Panel, as mentioned before you can change to the Classic Control Panel view. Under See Also, you can select Windows Update to open a browser and have your computer scanned for any needed critical updates, recommended updates or updated drivers. Clicking on Help and Support will open the Help and Support Center for Windows XP and clicking on Other Control Panel Options will open a Category view containing Control Panel icons not featured in any of the other category views. An example of such as page is shown in Figure 258.
You may have noticed that some of the categories in different view seemed repetitive. This is done to provide a greater ease of use for the computer user who may not always have a complete understanding of how to configure the various features in Windows XP. The Category View is another step taken by Microsoft in developing a Graphical User Interface (GUI) that makes it easier to access tools and options for the everyday user.
