Attributes and Permissions (Page 2 of 2) Sharing a Folder Notice that this folder is not shared. This means that permission to access this directory has not been granted to network users on other computers. This is also known as the network share permission. Share permissions apply to all users accessing files and folders across the network, regardless of operating system. Only folders can be configured as shares, individual files cannot. Clicking on the Share this folder radio button allows us to configure this folder for accessibility over the network.
By default, any network user may access a new share. To control this access, click the Permissions button.
The permissions dialog allows for the configuration of which users may access this share, and what they may do when accessing it. In the above screenshot, all network users will be allowed to read and change (in other words, modify or delete) any files within this share. To alter these permissions simply uncheck the checkboxes relating to the permission you wish to alter. If required, you can add further users to the list by clicking Add and selecting them from the dialog that appears.
